The Pocono Herb Club was started in 1982 by Shirley Young. Originally it was a group of friends who got together, through their love of herbs, to talk and share ideas. Shirley is still an active member. Today we have over 35 members and we keep growing. Some are beginners looking for information and help, others are well-seasoned and experienced gardeners and herbalist. Our current membership includes teachers, herbal practitioners, a registered nurse and master gardeners.
Most meeting are held the last Thursday of the month at the Eastern Monroe Public Library (Hughes Library) in Stroud Township, Pennsylvania. We do have some meetings off site such as the Summer Tea and Christmas Party. Please check the meeting schedule before attending the meeting or contact Robin Robertson (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information.
Our meetings vary each month. We may have a speaker, a demonstration or preplanned event such as our annual Victorian Tea or Soup Supper. We also have a yearly plant exchange that allows members an opportunity to share their excess plants with other members.
We reach out to the community by supporting local organizations such as PVEN, Path House and the Fitzmaurice Agency.
The club is also responsible for maintaining a herb garden at Quiet Valley Farm in Stroud Township, Pennsylvania. We feel that our herb garden adds to the authenticity of the farm and is a great way to share the knowledge of herbs with visitors to the farm. Our members also participate in Quiet Valleys Annual Harvest Festival held in October.
